Tower defense games got their start in real time strategy games. Players must build a series of static defenses along a pre-determined path to stop increasingly-difficult waves of enemies from reaching the end. As the enemies are killed, players are rewarded with money to build new towers or upgrade existing ones. Tower Defense expands on the idea with a story mode featuring 10 chapters, 8 tower types and 116 different types of monsters. Defeating the story unlocks custom mode, which provides a map editor for creating new levels.
